Scam awareness

Only Gays will never ask you for money.

Only Gays is free. Joining is free, messaging is free, and a voice call or a video call on the site is free. There is no subscription, no credit to buy, and no verification payment. We made it free so the conversation can stay here. You do not need another app, and you do not need to pay anyone to keep talking. That is how you avoid a scammer, and how you avoid a payment you cannot get back. If a member says the site has charged them, or that you must pay to unlock their messages, that person is not telling you the truth.

Other sites charge for the same messages and calls. They sell credits, and each reply spends some. The person you are writing to keeps the conversation going, so you have to keep buying credits to stay in it. That person may be a fake profile, an AI bot, or someone paid to keep you talking. Avoid those sites. They are trying to get money from you. Only Gays does not sell credits, and a longer conversation does not cost more.

What a scam looks like

  • They need money, a gift card, a ticket, or a fee. The reason changes. The ask does not.
  • They fall for you within days, and then they cannot meet. A voice call and a video call are free here. A scammer is the one who cannot get on one.
  • They want Telegram, Kik, Signal, Zangi, Session, WhatsApp, Snapchat, WeChat, Discord, or Facebook Messenger. They may say the site is "being watched" or "hard to talk on".
  • They ask for your email or phone number. Those messages are not delivered. That block is there to protect you, and the account that tried it receives a violation point.
  • They ask for identity documents, your workplace, or an explicit photo to prove you are real.

How it happens

These short films are from UK police forces, published so people can share them. They show the same shape: fast affection, a reason they cannot meet, then a request for money.

Love bombing

Essex Police. Overwhelming compliments, very quickly, are a tactic. Slow down and tell someone who is not in the conversation.

A real case

Metropolitan Police, with West Midlands Regional Organised Crime Unit and the City of London Police. A daughter describes savings sent to someone her mother had not met. The same film is on our safe online dating page.

A real member can answer an ordinary question, stay on Only Gays, and get on a voice or video call here. Messaging and calls are free, so there is no practical reason to move the conversation. Urgency is the useful sign. Someone who needs you to leave the site tonight is not being careful.

What to do

Stop replying. Do not send money to test them, and do not negotiate. On their profile, use Report profile and Block. Say what they asked for. You do not need to attach a photo or a document.

If you have already sent money, contact your bank and stop the payment if you can. You can also report romance fraud to Action Fraud. Telling us does not recall a payment. It does let us remove the account.
